3 Residents, 1 Firefighter Burned In Santa Ana House Fire

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Four people, including a firefighter, were injured Thursday in an Orange County house fire.

The fire was reported around 5:45 a.m. after a female resident woke up to smoke and flames on the first floor of her home in the 2000 block of S. Artesia Street in Santa Ana, the Orange County Fire Authority said.

The woman's husband tried to fight the fire with a garden hose, while she ran upstairs to alert her son and his wife, officials said.

The home had no working smoke detectors.

"That fire quickly established downstairs and they had to run down the stairs, through the fire to escape and we are lucky they're alive," Cpt. Steve Concialdi said.

The woman, her son and daughter-in-law suffered burns to their hands, face and ears. A firefighter-paramedic was also burned on his face while he searched the home.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
