3 Plead Not Guilty In Theft Of Olympic Gold Medal
VISTA (AP) — Three men have pleaded not guilty to stealing an Olympic gold medal and other items during break-ins at Oceanside homes.
The San Diego Union-Tribune says the men entered pleas Thursday to felony counts of burglary and receiving stolen property. If convicted, they could go to prison for nearly a dozen years.
San Diego County prosecutors say the men broke windows to get into homes in broad daylight and stole TVs, laptops, guns jewelry and video games.
Authorities say during a January break-in they took the gold medal that Tristan Gale Geisler won for a sledding event at the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Geisler says the medal was stolen while she walked her dog.
The medal and other items were recovered when police raided homes and arrested the men Tuesday.
