2 Men, 14-Year-Old Boy Killed In Possible Street Racing Crash Into South LA Building
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Two men and a 14-year-old boy were killed overnight in a crash into a South Los Angeles building that may have been the result of street racing.
The crash was reported just after midnight Monday at Central and Florence Avenues. The car had crashed into the brick facade of a Wells Fargo Bank.
A 23-year-old Camarillo man, a 32-year-old from Chino Hills, and a 14-year-old Los Angeles boy who were in a 2007 Toyota were declared dead at the scene. Their names have not been released.
The driver of the Toyota, a 20-year-old Hawthorne man, and a 28-year-old woman who was behind the wheel of a Jeep were taken to St. Francis Medical Center.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the Toyota's driver was going eastbound on Florence Avenue at an unsafe speed when he lost control and hit the Jeep, which was pushed into a third vehicle, a Honda. The Toyota continued to spin out of control before it hit the bank, and then ricocheted into a pole.
The Toyota's front passenger was ejected from the car.
The crash scene drew dozens of people after the crash, and the crowd became combative with police officers.
Alcohol or drugs were not believed to be a factor in the crash, but investigators are looking into whether street racing may have been the cause of the crash.
