Elderly Driver, 2 Others Injured After Car Crashes Into Target Store

CANOGA PARK (CBSLA.com) — A total of three people, including an elderly driver, were injured Friday after a car crashed into a Target store in Canoga Park.

The BMV crushed through the glass doors of the store shortly after 5 p.m. at 6800 North Owensmouth Avenue, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott.

KCAL9's Juan Fernandez reports the car was allegedly driven by a 72-year-old woman.

Police said the driver was leaving the mall at the time and allege that she failed to stop at a three-way stop sign. Investigators said there were no skid marks.

"We don't have any knowledge of whether or not she was impaired. She was an elderly woman," said Capt. Jaime Moore of the Los Angeles City Fire Department.

Moore said, "If you look at the way the streets are laid out just outside of this building you can see where there is an intersection right in front of those doors and if someone were to drive straight through that intersection, they'd drive right through those doors."

The elderly woman's son said his mother was okay, but in no mood to answer questions.

A 29-year-old woman, however, was listed in critical condition with head injuries, and a 56-year-old man suffered hip injuries.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
