A 45-year-old woman driving a 2003 Dodge Ram pickup truck got on the freeway from Barham Boulevard and swerved into the path of a Honda Civic, according to the CHP.

The driver of the Civic, a 77-year-old Camarillo woman, was unable to stop in time and the two vehicles crashed, according to the CHP.

She suffered major injuries and her passenger, a 78-year-old Camarillo man, was being treated for his injuries when he went into full cardiac arrest, according to the CHP.

Paramedics were able to revive him and take him to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he later died.

The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries.

No arrests were made.

Three subsequent non-injury crashes occurred as approaching vehicles were unable to avoid the first collision.

Preliminary reports said "it was raining, visibility was somewhat limited and the roadway was wet" at the time of the crashes.

All southbound lanes of the 101 were closed for about an hour during the investigation.
