At least three vehicles were involved, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

The crash occurred shortly after 1 a.m. in the 2600 block of South Malt Avenue.

Three people died at the scene, a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher said, and two males were rushed to a hospital with critical injuries.

The fatalities were later identified as South Gate resident Oscar Sanchez, 15; Guillerno Gutierrez, 29, from Los Angeles and Oscar Gutierrez Sabino, a 27-year-old resident of Los Angeles, a coroner's investigator said.

A videographer at the scene said the vehicles involved were two Mustangs and a Chevrolet pickup truck.
