3 Charged In Sexual Hazing Incident At La Puente High School
POMONA (CBSLA.com) — Felony sex charges were filed Tuesday against three boys accused of sexually hazing freshman students at La Puente High School.
Two 17-year-olds were charged with one felony count each of sexual penetration with a foreign object and assault with a deadly weapon, as well as four misdemeanor counts each of sexual battery and hazing involving four victims.
A 16-year-old boy was charged with one felony count each of sexual penetration with a foreign object and assault with a deadly weapon and two misdemeanor counts each of sexual battery and hazing involving two victims.
Four 14 and 15-year-old boys, who had made La Puente High's Varsity soccer team, were allegedly sexually assaulted by their older teammates in a room next to the coach's office in May 2012, according to attorney Brian Claypool.
Claypool said the team's "teacher/soccer coach lured young boys to a back room to facilitate varsity members of the team sexually assaulting the boys by attempting to sodomize them with a foreign object."
One player was reportedly hospitalized.
Police arrested four suspects who were later released to their parents.
Claypool claimed La Puente High School attempted to cover up the reported hazing incidents.
Detectives have interviewed 70 students about the alleged crimes.
