3 Arrested During Panga Boat Bust To Appear In Court Monday
MALIBU (CBS) — Three men suspected of attempting to smuggle a boatload of marijuana are expected to appear in court Monday on federal drug trafficking charges.
Los Angeles deputies interrupted an overnight attempt Saturday to smuggle a half a ton of marijuana valued at $1 million ashore in Malibu, according to authorities.
The seizure followed a tip from someone who spotted a panga boat, the kind often used by smugglers from Mexico.
The boat landed at Pirate's Cove.
Authorities called off the search for a fourth smuggler later Saturday.
They say it's not clear if that suspect escaped or ever existed.
The boat was reportedly loaded with 40-50 bales of marijuana, police reported.
