2nd Teen In South Bay Galleria Stabbing Files Lawsuit
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The family of a teen stabbed in December at the South Bay Galleria has filed a lawsuit, the second such suit against the mall.
The lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages on behalf of the plaintiff identified as Emeline V., was filed against Forest City Enterprises, landlord of the Redondo Beach shopping center, and Andrews International, Inc., which provides security.
A similar suit was filed Feb. 25 on behalf of a 13-year-old boy, identified as Ricky W., who was with the girl.
The girl was stabbed multiple times, and the boy suffered stab wounds to his chest and heart as well as to one lung and arm, according to the lawsuits. The boy's parents have incurred more than $300,000 in medical bills, according to their lawyer, Michael Alder, who represents the families of both children.
According the lawsuits, the mall's owners had an obligation to keep the children safe and warn them of any potential dangers.
The stabbing happened in front of the AMC Theatres on the mall's third level at about 7:25 p.m. on Dec. 29, Redondo Beach police Lt. Joe Hoffman.
The suspect remains at large.
