2nd Santa Ana Carjacking Suspect, Weapon At Large
SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A carjacking suspect is in custody, but police say his accomplice is at large.
Santa Ana police say a man at Northgate Market, 1623 W. 17th St. in Santa Ana, was loading groceries into his car when he was carjacked by two men who had been panhandling outside the store.
One of the suspects, Yuly Andres Aguayo, 22, of Santa Ana, threatened the victim with a handgun and demanded his keys, police said. The victim, fearing for his safety, handed the keys over and police say the suspects got into the car and drove away.
The carjacking and a description of the stolen car, a red 2012 Hyundai Accent, was broadcast to field officers. Two officers in the area of Edinger and Fairview Street found the vehicle and detained a single suspect driving it, who was later identified as Aguayo, police said.
The second suspect, who remains at large, is described as a male Hispanic in his 20s. The weapon used in the carjacking is also still missing.
Anyone who may have witnessed the carjacking, or has information about the second suspect's identity can contact Santa Ana Police Department's robbery detectives at (714) 245-8558.
