2nd LA Building Inspector Agrees To Bribery Plea
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A second Los Angeles building inspector charged in a federal bribery case has agreed to plead guilty to accepting thousands of dollars in bribes to approve construction work he never inspected.
Hugo Gonzalez signed the agreement with prosecutors on Friday to plead guilty to a single charge of bribery, about two weeks after Raoul Germain pleaded guilty to the same charge. The Los Angeles Times says the 49-year-old Gonzalez will officially change his plea in front of a judge on Monday.
Germain and Gonzalez were the targets of an FBI sting after an informant who worked at a construction site alleged they accepted bribes. The men face up to 10 years in prison and $250,000 in fines and restitution, but prosecutors will recommend lesser sentences because of the guilty pleas.
