$5M In Cocaine Seized In Lakeview Terrace Drug Bust
LAKEVIEW TERRACE (CBSLA.com) — Police Friday confiscated approximately $5 million worth of cocaine that was found stashed in a big rig truck during a San Fernando Valley drug bust.
The bust happened around 8 p.m. Thursday at a truck storage yard in the 1200 block of Lopez Road in Lakeview Terrace, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
"We received information that a load was possibly coming up from Mexico. We intercepted the vehicle en route to this location," an undercover LAPD officer told KNX 1070's Jon Baird.
Drug Bust
A drug dog discovered 70 kilos of bagged cocaine that was stashed inside a secret steel compartment in a tractor trailer bed, KNX 1070's Jon Baird reports.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department was brought in to cut through the steel plates and remove the drugs.
The cocaine has a street value of approximately $20,000 per kilo, officials said.
The bust was part of an ongoing investigation the LA Impact, an agency comprised of narcotics officers from across Los Angeles County.
The driver and a passenger were arrested.
