Crews Call Off Search For Missing Swimmer At Dana Point
DANA POINT (CBSLA.com) —The Harbor Patrol and the U.S. Coast Guard have called off their search for a 34-year-old Rowland Heights man who went missing in the ocean Sunday evening.
Frank Daniel Austin went into the water at Salt Creek Beach and did not return to the surface.
Crews searched for his body Monday in a "recovery effort," but they couldn't find him.
Divers started the search around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, but had to stop about 10 p.m. due to rough waters.
Officials said the surf was breaking between 5 and 7 feet.
The high surf, generated by Hurricane Ileana off Mexico, is expected to subside Monday to 4 to 6 feet.
The high surf advisory is in effect along the Orange County coast through Monday.
