26-year-old woman arrested for deadly DUI crash in Mission Viejo
Authorities have arrested a 26-year-old woman in connection with a deadly DUI crash that happened early Wednesday morning in Mission Viejo.
The crash was reported at around 1:40 a.m. near the intersection of Marguerite Parkway and Pueblonuevo Drive, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
"Deputies arrived and discovered a Chevrolet Malibu and a Toyota Camry had been involved in a head-on collision," said a statement from detectives. "Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears the Chevrolet Malibu was driving the wrong way in southbound lanes on Marguerite Parkway and collided with the Toyota Camry head-on."
The victim, a woman in her 60s who was driving the Camry and has not yet been identified, was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead, deputies said.
The driver of the Malibu was also hospitalized with injuries she suffered in the collision. She has been identified as Geraldine Caicedo-Perez.
Deputies arrested the woman on suspicion of driving under the influence and booked her into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, the OCSD statement said.
