26 Arrests Made Among Crowd Of 93,420 At Rose Bowl
PASADENA (CBS) — If you do the math, 26 goes into 93,420 a whole bunch of times.
Police said they arrested 26 people before, during the after the Gold Cup soccer game between the USA and Mexico held Saturday evening at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
Most of the arrests involved public intoxication, according to authorities.
"It seems many of them arrived early and started drinking in the parking lot," Pasadena Police Department Sgt. Bobby Lomeli told reporters. "People do some crazy things when they have alcohol in them."
The hot weather was also a factor in the beer consumption, Lomeli said.
Because of the capacity crowd, fans were advised to arrive by 4 p.m. for the 6 p.m. game deciding the men's soccer champion for the North American, Central American and Caribbean region.
If you already haven't heard the less than exciting news for the USA, Mexico won 4-2.
Police said the 26 arrests were slightly more than average for an event at the Rose Bowl. Authorities explain that UCLA football games rarely sell out and alcohol is not sold.
Lomeli said some of the arrests of people today involved those who didn't know "What's going on?"
The game was the first between the US and Mexico to be held in the Los Angeles area in more than ten years.
