$25K Reward Offered In Stabbing Of 2 Teens At South Bay Mall
REDONDO BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A $25,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of a suspect who stabbed two teens at a South Bay mall.
The stabbing occurred on Dec. 29 around 7:20 p.m. on the third level of the South Bay Galleria, Lt. Joe Hoffman of the Redondo Beach Police Department said.
A girl and boy, both 13, were stabbed multiple times with a kitchen knife in front of the AMC Theatres in what appears to be a random, unprovoked attack.
"After multiple surgeries and extensive hospital stays, both teens have been released from the hospital and are back home with their families," Lt. Hoffman said.
Investigators released a sketch of the suspect and multiple videos from surveillance cameras within the mall in hopes the public can help identify him.
"Hopefully someone will realize they were one of the people there. And even if it's a very small piece of information, that somebody may feel is insignificant, that may not be the case," Lt. Hoffman said. "Even the smallest piece of information could give us a piece of the puzzle that will lead us to the next step."
Authorities describe the suspect as a black male in his 40s, who is possibly bald. He is tall with a medium build.
"The suspect had a beard and mustache (black with some gray), and was possibly wearing prescription glasses," Lt. Hoffman said in a news release.
He was wearing a beanie, a green and brown fatigue-type jacket, blue jeans, and a black t-shirt at the time of the attack.
KNX 1070's Ron Kilgore spoke to the boy's parents who are asking for the public's help.
"We would like the public to call in if you know who this person is, so we can get this monster off the streets so no other families will go through what we are going through," the boy's mother said.

The Redondo Beach Police Department has obtained several short video clips from the surveillance cameras of Galleria Mall businesses. The video clips can be found here. The video clips depict the subject believed to be responsible for the stabbing.
