22-year-old woman struck and killed by train in Jurupa Valley
A 22-year-old woman was struck and killed by a train in Jurupa Valley over the weekend.
It happened on Sunday evening at around 7:45 p.m., according to the Union Pacific Railroad investigators looking into the matter. The Riverside County Coroner's Office, who identified the woman was Maraya Espinoza, say that it happened on the railroad tracks that parallel Van Buren Boulevard.
They believe that she was either standing or walking along the tracks when she was hit by a train going southbound.
Investigators say that the train stopped immediately and that Riverside County Fire Department paramedics declared Espinoza dead at the scene shortly after their arrival.
It remains unclear why the woman was on the tracks.
