21-year-old woman killed, two others injured during head-on crash in Hemet
A 21-year-old woman was killed and two others were hospitalized after a head-on crash in hemet on Sunday evening.
The crash happened at around 9 p.m. on Mountain Avenue, according to the Hemet Police Department.
Officers were sent to the location after learning of the collision, where they learned that the woman was behind the wheel of a Kia Forte heading westbound when "she drifted into oncoming lanes," said a statement from the department.
At the same time, a man was driving eastbound in a Hyundai Ioniq when he spotted the Kia heading towards him. Police say that he attempted to swerve out of the way but the two cars collided head-on in eastbound lanes.
Paramedics arrived at the location and found the woman, now identified as Stephanie Morales of San Jacinto, in grave condition. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she died less than an hour later.
Investigators say that she did not appear to be wearing a safety belt when the crash occurred.
Both the driver and passenger of the Hyundai were also hospitalized with moderate injuries, police said. Both are expected to make full recoveries.
The road was shut down for six hours as the police investigation was conducted.
