$20,000 Reward Offered In Chino Bank Robbery, Police Officer Shooting
CHINO (CBS) — The FBI announced Wednesday a reward of $20,000 for information leading to the arrest of a bank robber who shot and wounded a Chino police officer.
The robbery happened last Wednesday at the California Bank & Trust, 5455 Riverside Drive. A man armed with an assault rifle, similar to an AK-47, along with a sling and drum magazine, was fleeing the bank after the robbery when he ran into a police officer patrolling the area. The robber fired on the officer, seriously wounding him, and left the scene in a dark gray Nissan Maxima with four doors and tinted windows with Arizona plates.
The wounded officer was able to drive himself to a hospital.
Before the bank robbery, police believe the suspect called a threat into the 911 dispatch center from a pay phone near the bank in an effort to delay officers responding to the bank robbery.
"Someone willing to attempt the murder of a police officer and terrorize bank employees with an assault rifle is a danger to all of us and must be caught," FBI Assistant Director In Charge Steve Martinez said in a statement.
The suspect, who wore body armor, was described as a white man, 25 to 40 years old, with a stocky build. During the robbery, his body armor was worn over a dark-colored short-sleeved shirt with a collar, blue pants, and a ski mask covering his face.
The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information about the identity or whereabouts of the suspect can call the Chino Police Department at (909) 628-1234, their nearest FBI office or dial 911.
