200 Residents Told To Evacuate La Canada Flintridge, La Crescenta
LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE (CBS) — More than 200 residents have been told to evacuate their homes in La Canada Flintridge and La Crescenta.
With the strongest in a series of storms expected to batter the Southland with rain overnight, county public safety officials ordered the evacuations to protect residents from possible mud and debris flows.
The Foothills Unified Incident Command, which includes county public works, fire, sheriff and emergency management personnel, ordered the evacuation of 147 homes in La Canada Flintridge and 85 homes in La Crescenta.
Sheriff's deputies were going door-to-door in the affected neighborhoods to notify residents of the evacuation order. Residents were being asked to evacuate by 9 p.m.
A Red Cross evacuation shelter will be opened at Holy Redeemer Church, 2411 Montrose Ave., in Montrose.
Public safety crews also said parking restrictions were being enforced in La Canada Flintridge and La Crescenta neighborhoods, and vehicles left on affected streets would be towed.
The residents of several La Canada Flintridge residents told KCAL 9's Kristine Lazar that they are "evacuation weary" after a series of evacuation orders now numbering nearly 20 through 2010.
