200 Firefighters Battle 100-Acre Wildfire In Cabazon
CABAZON (CBS) — More than 200 firefighters were in Cabazon Sunday evening taking a stand against a 100-acre wildfire in Cottonwood Canyon, a Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman said.
The fire was first reported at 9:15 p.m. with a rapid rate of spread, although no structures were threatened, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said.
At the time the fire was reported, temperatures were about 80 degrees, with 35 percent humidity and winds from the west-northwest at 15 mph.
Due to the darkness, no helicopters or air tankers could be employed. Four bulldozers and three water tenders and 21 engines were on the scene, Hendrickson said.
