Firefighters Gain Control Of 275-Acre Brush Fire
APPLE VALLEY (CBS/AP) — A 275-acre brush fire that threatened Apple Valley is no longer spreading.
Bill Peters of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says the blaze isn't officially contained but there's no flame showing and about 150 firefighters are busy mopping up hot spots.
The fire was first reported just before 9 a.m. just south of Apple Valley. Officials said winds, registering 10 to 15 miles per hour, fueled the fire at a moderate rate of spread.
No evacuation orders were issued. About 150 firefighters were on the scene along with water-dropping aircraft. Officials said an outbuilding and an abandoned RV burned.
There's no word yet on what caused the blaze.
