20-Year-Old Man Arrested In Connection With Deadly Crash In South El Monte
SOUTH EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives Friday investigated the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a 19-year-old man in South El Monte.
Just before 10 p.m. on June 26, the driver of a Mitsubishi lost control of the vehicle, which flipped and then crashed on the Rosemead Boulevard on-ramp of the eastbound 60 Freeway, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department,
Upon their arrival, authorities pronounced Jonathan Loaiza dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed occupants who traveled in the Mitsubishi that flipped over shot at another vehicle that traveled north on Rosemead Boulevard.
A second victim, whose identity is not being released, remains hospitalized for treatment of gunshot wounds sustained in the crash.
On July 1, James Anthony Rojas, 20, was arrested for murder.
He is being held on $1 million bail.
At this time, authorities believe the shooting is gang-related.
