20-Something Man Fatally Shot By Likely Acquaintance On North Hills Street
N ORTH HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Authorities are investigating the shooting death of a 20-something man Sunday on a North Hills street.
The unidentified man was apparently shot to death around noon after he stepped outside an SUV in which he was a passenger.
Officials said after the man got out of the vehicle, another man also got out and shot him in the 14600 block of Novice Street, near Van Nuys Boulevard.
The suspect and the driver, a Latina, fled the scene in the vehicle. The suspect vehicle was described as a tan or gold Chevy Blazer or Toyota Forerunner.
Authorities said local residents called 911 to report multiple shots being fired.
"The only thing we know for sure is the victim was dropped off by the same car that contained the shooter," LAPD Lt. Paul Vernon wrote in a statement. "We deduce the victim knew his assailant, but even that is supposition at this point."
The victim was shot multiple times at close range. He died at the scene, police said.
The shooter was described as a Latino in his 20s. The suspect has a medium build with short hair or a shaved head. He was wearing blue jeans and a green shirt when last seen.
"It appears the victim climbed over a child's car seat in the backseat, and got out of the SUV on the curb side," Lt. Vernon added. "He turned away from the car when the shooter exited the front passenger door and shot him from behind. It seems the victim had no idea what was happening."
Detectives have not yet determined the motive.
"Once we identify the victim, we'll know more," Lt. Vernon added.
