2 Suspects In Deadly Redondo Beach Shooting Released From Custody
REDONDO BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Two people suspected in a deadly Redondo Beach shooting were released from custody Tuesday morning as charges were not filed within 48 hours of their arrests.
Eduardo Antonio Losa, 42, and Shelby Ann Johnston, 29, were arrested Monday. Losa, an alleged NSR-13 gang member, was booked on suspicion of murdering Bobby Darren Reynolds while Johnston, Losa's girlfriend, was booked on suspicion of being an accessory to murder.
Reynolds, a Gardena husband and father of three, was reportedly waiting for his children to return to a relative's home around 8 p.m. on Friday when he was shot at close range in the 2400 block of Ralston Lane.
He was treated at the scene and subsequently taken to Harbor General Hospital, where he died.
Losa and Johnston were both released at 7 a.m. Tuesday morning, Redondo Beach police Capt. Jeff Hink confirmed.
"We still believe they were involved in the crime, but investigators need more time to put together the case," Hink said.
Police are also looking for Erick Ortega, 27, who was initially described by police as a "person of interest" in the killing. He's now being sought as a suspect, according to Hink, who said Ortega has prior arrests for robbery and narcotics and is a documented NSR-13 gang member. Ortega is considered armed and dangerous, police said.
It was unclear why Reynolds was targeted. Witnesses reported that a gunman jumped into the passenger seat of a waiting Chrysler 300 that took off at a high rate of speed after the shooting.
