SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — Two students were stabbed with kitchen knives at a high school in San Bernardino Friday afternoon.

The incident happened at Indian Springs High School at 650 N. Del Rosa Drive.

San Bernardino Unified School District police said the suspect, who attends nearby Curtis Middle School, attacked two boys who were trying to break up a fight.

One of the boys was stabbed in the torso, while the other kid was punctured in the abdomen.

The victims, an eighth-grader at Curtis Middle and a ninth-grader at Indian Springs, were taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center and are expected to recover.

The suspected stabber was immediately taken into custody, along with two others.

"We have three in custody at this point in regards to this incident," said Chief Joe Paulino of the SBUSD Police Department. "We know that there is one young man that we have confirmed through an interview was the stabber. However, we are still investigating the two subjects involved."

The suspected assailant faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon.

Along with the knives, authorities said mini-bats were recovered at the scene.
