2 Stabbed, 1 Critically, In Fight Over Pay Phone In South Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Officials say two people were stabbed, including a woman who is in critical condition, after a fight broke out in South Los Angeles over use of a pay phone.
The woman was reportedly stabbed in the back multiple times, according to a police lieutenant.
The victim was at a pay telephone at Figueroa Street and Imperial Highway, at about 9:30 p.m., when she was approached by a man she didn't know.
The woman told police an argument started over the pay phone and the man began stabbing her in the back, according to Lt. Jon Tippet in the Los Angeles Police Department Southeast Station.
Another man was stabbed twice, suffering lacerations, Tippet said.
The victims were taken to Harbor General Hospital, he said.
"Coincidentally, officers were in the area and were flagged down by citizens, who told them a woman was being stabbed," Tippet said. Officers raced to the scene in time to arrest the suspect, who was expected to be booked for suspicion of attempted murder.
