2 Seriously Injured After Chain-Reaction Wreck On 110 Freeway In Carson
CARSON (CBSLA) — Two people were seriously hurt and several more are believed to have suffered minor injuries Monday night after a chain-reaction crash involving six vehicles on the 110 Freeway in Carson.
According to California Highway Patrol, the six cars were involved in two separate collisions at around 8:10 p.m. on the northbound 110 Freeway between Carson Street and Torrance Boulevard. Car parts were left strewn across the freeway.
The first crash occurred when a GMC pickup truck that had been stopped on the shoulder tried to re-enter traffic and was rear-ended by a Lexus sedan. The impact sent the GMC colliding into a big-rig.
The second collision involved a Honda Prelude which was stopped on the freeway because of the first collision, CHP reports. The Prelude was struck by a Ford Mustang, which then lost control and slammed into a Kia Soul.
The driver and passenger of the Prelude were rushed to Harbor UCLA Medical Center with serious injuries, CHP reports.
It's unclear exactly how many others were hurt, although their injuries were believed to be minor.
CHP shut down the northbound side of the freeway for more than three hours, backing up traffic for miles. It reopened a little before midnight.
