2 Quakes Strike Near Idyllwild
IDYLLWILD (CBSLA.com) — A magnitude-3.4 earthquake originating near Idyllwild shook the region overnight and was felt as far away as Diamond Bar, the U.S. Geological Survey reported today.
The quake hit at 3:43 a.m. at a depth of about a mile. About 164 responses were logged by the USGS with around 50 of the respondents hailing from the city of Hemet.
A second magnitude-2.3 quake also hit near Idyllwild less than half an hour later. The USGS reported the subsequent quake at 4:08 a.m. at a depth of more than 8 miles.
The two light quakes follow Wednesday's magnitude-4.5 quake that struck near Banning. That quake prompted responses in five different counties, but yielded no reports of damage.
