2 Puppies Severely Burned In Fire Released To Foster Home
THOUSAND OAKS (CBS) — Two puppies, who suffered third-degree burns in a house fire in February, were released to a foster home Wednesday night.
They had been brought to an emergency center in Thousand Oaks where they needed a guardian angel.
They found one in renowned burn specialist Doctor Richard Grossman, who stepped in to help.
Natalia and Phoenix have been through a lot, but eventually they will become service dogs, helping human burn victims.
"They have IV catheters, IV fluids, IV antibiotics, sometimes continual IV pain medication, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy every eight hours, three times a day around the clock," said Veterinarian Cheryl Braswel.
"They're going to be service dogs. And you look at them and you say, 'If they can survive, I can survive,'" Dr. Grossman said.
The puppies should be in their permanent homes next month.
Within a year they will be making regular visits to the human patients at the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills Hospital.
