2 Men Suspected Of Taking Uber To Drug Deal
THOUSAND OAKS (CBSLA.com) — Two men face drug charges after authorities say they were caught using Uber to take them to a drug deal.
Cody Jens, 24, of Agoura Hills, and Luke Karasiuk, 22, of Thousand Oaks, were arrested Wednesday after a Ventura County sheriff's deputy stopped the car they were riding in for a vehicle code violation. The deputies discovered the driver was operating his car for the Uber taxi service, sheriff's officials said.
The rear passengers, later identified as Jens and Karasiuk, were contacted and found to be in possession of approximately one quarter pound of concentrated cannabis known as "butane honey oil" and $2,000, authorities said, and the investigation determined the two men were using Uber to go to a drug deal.
Authorities say concentrated cannabis, also known as honey oil, wax or shatter, is an extremely potent drug that can contain purity levels of up to 80 percent of Delta 9 THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. A typical dose of honey oil is 1/10th of one gram, and the suspect had more than a thousand dosage units of the product in their possession, sheriff's officials said.
Jens was released Thursday after posting bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 11. Karasiuk was being held on $50,000 bail, according to Ventura County jail records, and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 30.
