2 men killed, 5 people injured in shooting at Athens Park in South Los Angeles
Two men died and another five people, including an underage boy, were wounded in a shooting at Athens Park in South Los Angeles, authorities said Saturday.
Deputies responded to a report of possible gunshot victims Friday night in the 13200 block of Jarvis Avenue in Athens Park, which is located in the west Compton area, according to the LA County Sheriff's Department. The shooting happened around 8 p.m., officials said.
When they arrived to the scene, the deputies found two men suffering from gunshot wounds, sheriff's officials said. Paramedics took the two victims to a hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Investigators later learned that four other men and a boy, whose age was not released by authorities, were also wounded by gunfire, according to sheriff's officials. They were treated at hospitals in the area for injuries which officials said were not life-threatening.
As the investigation continues, no other details have been released by authorities.
