2 Men Killed, 2 Wounded In North Hollywood Shootout
NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) – Two men were killed and two others were wounded in a shootout in North Hollywood late Monday night.
The shooting occurred at around 11:30 p.m. in front of an apartment complex at Morrison Street and Klump Avenue, according to Los Angeles police. Neighbors reported hearing up to 20 gunshots.
"It could have been several shots, and then next thing I know, I heard about five or six more shots, and then some yelling, really brief," neighbor John Lorenz told CBS2.
A group of six men, likely in their 20s or 30s, were engaged in an argument prior to the shooting, police said.
"I went out on the balcony on the other side, and I saw the blood, so that kind of hit home a little bit," Lorenz said.
One victim died at the scene and a second passed away after being rushed to a hospital.
Two others were also hospitalized. One man underwent surgery for critical injuries. The second was treated and released and was later questioned by investigators.
Several parked cars were struck by bullets as well. Two guns were recovered at the scene, police said.
"Our forensic team will take each of those casings, and they'll be able to determine if it came from one of these two guns," Detective Meghan Aguilar said.
Detectives believe there were likely two shooters. Two more men who are believed to have been involved in the altercation remain at large.
The area was shut down throughout the morning while investigators canvassed the scene. Several residents were unable to access their vehicles in order to leave for work.
No names have been released.
