2 Killed In Possible Street Racing Crash In La Puente
LA PUENTE (CBSLA.com) — A two-vehicle crash that killed two people and sent a third to the hospital with major injuries early Sunday morning in La Puente, may have been the result of street racing, authorities said.
The crash occurred just after 3:20 a.m. at North Puente Avenue and Amar Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. The dead men and injured woman were in a white, 2000 Chevrolet Malibu that was speeding on Puente Avenue. The driver, a 26-year-old man from West Covina, lost control of the car and crashed into the back of a parked Ford pickup, the CHP crash report says.
The other man killed in the crash was identified by family as 19-year-old Jonathan Londono of La Puente resident. The injured woman, 23, was taken by paramedics to Lost Angeles County/USC Medical Center, a Los Angeles County fire dispatcher told City News Service.
The CHP crash report states that a witness said the Malibu "may have been racing a beige sedan."
"I didn't know what it was," resident Richard Koutsky said. "I thought it was a meteor or something. It was that loud."
Residents in the area, meanwhile, say that this would not be the first street-racing-related incident that marked tragedy on the street.
"If they don't do something, they're going to continue doing it until they kill another person," resident Augi Villalobos said.
A crowd began gathering at the sight of the crash on Sunday evening, lighting candles in vigil.

A fundraiser for Londono is set to be held on Monday, at 738 N. Sierra Vista Ct., in La Puente. Food will be sold and donations will be accepted.
