2 Injured In Fiery Crash In Boyle Heights

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters Tuesday investigated a fiery crash that injured two people in Boyle Heights.

According to California Highway Patrol officers, police were sent shortly before 4:30 a.m. to the area of South Grand Vista Avenue at the northbound 5 Freeway for report of a traffic collision.

Upon their arrival, officials located a vehicle that was fully engulfed in flames.

A preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle crashed on the freeway, then collided with a center median located on South Grand Vista Avenue, and subsequently caught on fire.

Two people were pulled from the car. Paramedics transported the victims to County USC Medical Center. The extent of their injuries remains unknown at this time.

Police explained witnesses reported the vehicle traveled at a high rate of speed, and was possibly racing before the incident occurred.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
