2 In Custody After Allegedly Shooting At Police In Highland Park
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Two suspects who shot at Los Angeles police officers in Highland Park have been taken into custody, department officials said.
The suspects were arrested around 1 a.m. following a "shots fired" report in the 2200 block of North Avenue 57 in Highland Park, Los Angeles police Lt. Richard Parks said.
Park said four or five shots were fired around 7:30 p.m. and a SWAT team was subsequently dispatched to the scene.
The shooting suspects — one in his late teens, the other in his early 20s — were found in an apartment building in the same block, which was evacuated during the search.
A weapon believed to have been used in the shooting, a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, was recovered, Parks said.
A perimeter around the apartment building remained partially in place early Friday.
Some residents were unable to return to their units as officers continued to search for evidence.
