2 Hospitalized In Suspected Ammonia Leak At South Gate Cheese Plant
SOUTH GATE (CBSLA.com) — Two people were hospitalized Tuesday for minor injuries linked to a suspected ammonia leak at a South Gate cheese factory, authorities said.
The leak at the Saputo Cheese USA plant located at 5711 East Imperial Highway was reported around 5 a.m., according to Los Angeles County Fire Department officials.
A hazardous materials team arrived on scene shortly after 6:25 a.m. and were working to ensure the leak - believed to be in the plant's refrigeration system - was plugged, officials said.
Two additional people complained of side effects from the leak, but they were not hospitalized.
No other details were available.
