2 Harvard-Westlake Players Drafted In Top-16 Of MLB Draft

STUDIO CITY  (CBS) —Harvard-Westlake High School in Studio City was at the center of the baseball world on Monday, as two players were selected in the top-16 of Major League Baseball's amateur draft.

The San Diego Padres selected18-year-old LHP Max Fried with the seventh overall pick.

Fried was rated as the top southpaw by Baseball America, but could decide to play college ball at UCLA.

With the 16th overall pick, the Washington Nationals selected Lucas Giolito, a 6-6 RHP who was Fried's teammate at Harvard-Westlake.

Giolito missed his senior season with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament.

Before the injury, he was predicted by some to be the first ever RHP to be selected no.1 overall out of high school.
