2 Girls Home Alone Call For Help While Their Home Is Reportedly Being Burglarized
NORWALK (CBS) — Three people were arrested Tuesday after leaving a home they attempted to burglarize while two girls cowered inside, authorities reported.
Shortly after 9 a.m., deputies received word of a burglary in progress in the 13200 block of Flatbush Avenue from the children's mother, the sheriff's department said.
The girls, an 8-year-old and a 12-year-old, were home alone when three men rang the doorbell and began banging on the doors and windows. When the girls did not answer, the suspects began taking the screens off windows.
The girls called their mother, who was just a short distance away, on her cell phone.
The mother called 911 and arrived at the home a short time later, only to see the suspects driving away in a 1996 white Chevy Tahoe. Deputies later found the vehicle traveling on Rosecrans Avenue and conducted a felony traffic stop.
Dionandre Stevenson, 19, and two male juveniles, were booked for residential burglary.
Sheriff's Sgt. Mike Mendoza said the suspects didn't actually take anything from the home, but the fact that they removed window screens makes the charges a burglary rather than an attempted burglary.
Anyone with information was asked to call the Norwalk sheriff's station at (562) 863-8711.
