2 Documented Gang Members Arrested In Connection With Riverside Murder
RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Two documented gang members were in custody Friday for allegedly shooting and killing a 40-year-old man.
According to the Riverside Police Department, officers received a call around 3:44 p.m. on May 31, 2014, reporting a person who had been shot in the 3600 block of Cranford Avenue.
When authorities arrived, the victim — later identified as Dana Parker, of Riverside — was located sitting inside his car, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital where he died from injuries sustained in the shooting.
Police said a preliminary investigation revealed a suspect shot Parker, while he was sitting inside of the vehicle on Cranford Avenue, and then fled in an unknown direction.
Detectives said they believe the shooting was gang and racially motivated.
On Wednesday, police submitted the case to the district attorney's office for prosecution.
Michael Barbarin, 19, of Riverside, was arrested in connection with murder of Parker. The district attorney's office filed charges against Barbarin for first degree murder with special circumstances, committing a hate crime and gang violence.
He is currently in custody on an unrelated charge, and will be eligible for the death penalty, authorities said.
A second suspect, Anthony Cienfuegos Valadez, 23, of Riverside, was formerly arrested in connection to this case, and will be formally charged.
