2 Dead In Officer-Involved Shooting In Oxnard
OXNARD (CBSLA.com) — Oxnard police fatally shot two suspects Saturday evening they said fired on them after a brief pursuit.
Officials said just after 10:12 on Saturday, officers tried to make a traffic stop.
They said the driver failed to stop for police but eventually pulled over at Second Street and Grant Avenue.
Authorities said the driver, and two male passengers, all failed to comply with police instructions for more than 10 minutes.
Police said one man was talking on a cell phone. They believed another occupant of the vehicle was simulating that he had a weapon.
At this time, police reported hearing from dispatch that a nearby resident had said one of the car's occupants had brandished a weapon moments before.
Officers said the men took off again.
After a brief pursuit, police said the driver stopped in the 100 block of North Garfield Avenue.
Two occupants fled the vehicle when it came to a stop and fled. Officers said both men fired on them. Police returned fire.
One suspect was arrested. Two subjects sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
No officers were injured during the shootout.
The Ventura County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation, along with assistance from the Ventura County District Attorney's Office and the Oxnard Police Department.
The Oxnard Police Department said they will also conduct an administrative investigation.
