2 Dead, 2 Hurt In Hacienda Heights 2-Vehicle Crash

HACIENDA HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) —  Two people are dead and two hurt in a two-vehicle car crash in Hacienda Heights Sunday evening.

The crash occurred on the eastbound 60 Freeway at the 7th Street off-ramp just before 7 p.m., authorities said.

CHP is on scene investigating.

Two people were reportedly trapped inside the vehicle. At least one of the victims required "extended extrication," according to the LA County Fire Department.

KCAL9's Rebecca Ferriter quoted the CHP as saying a dark-colored sedan going east on the 60 failed to stop as it got to the off-ramp. The sedan hit a dip and went airborne as a white Toyota Tacoma was headed northbound.

The top of the Tacoma's truck was cut off. Two passengers in that vehicle -- a male and female both 18 -- were both killed.

A man and the woman in the sedan had minor injuries, Ferriter reported. The sedan landed upside down in a Denny's parking lot.

It was originally reported that the two people in the sedan were critically injured.

Neither drugs or alcohol are suspected in the crash.

"In my experience, from ten years on the job," said CHP Officer Jeremy Tolen, "there was a lot of speed that was involved here. There was high impact, a great collision. We're lucky that no one else was killed. There was a witness in the parking lot that could have been struck as well."

Family members were told their loved ones were killed or hurt in the crash and many of them rushed to the scene.
