2 Dead, 1 Critically Hurt In Sylmar Crash Caused Allegedly By Street Racing
SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) — Two people were killed and one critically injured in a crash in Sylmar Friday evening and authorities said street racing was possibly to blame.
Authorities said five people in total were injured. Two people had minor injuries.
SKY9's Stu Mundel said the two deceased were declared dead at the scene.
The crash occurred about 7:30 p.m. on San Fernando Road, just under the 5 Freeway underpass.
Five ambulances were called to the scene.
The seriously injured victim was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The victims with minor injuries were also taken to the hospital.
Detectives with the LAPD's West Valley Traffic Division are on scene investigating, Mundel reported.
Picking up the story Friday evening, Brittney Hopper reported that street racing was believed to be a factor.
Witnesses said they heard a loud bang then saw a crash before calling 911.
It sounded like "a big bang," said one man, "just bang, metal to metal. Like a dry heat."
Officials told her they were looking for a silver car that fled the scene.
