2 Dead, 1 Hurt In Horrific Santa Fe Springs Crash

SANTA FE SPRINGS (CBSLA.com) —  Two children are dead and their father injured  in a crash in Santa Fe Springs that left the man's Honda Civic split in half.

The accident occurred in the 9300 block of Los Nietos Road, just east of Norwalk Boulevard, around 5:45 p.m.

The driver, 33,  sustained significant injuries and is in stable condition. The man's two sons, aged 11 and 13, were declared dead at the scene.

Saturday, officials identified the father as Valentin Medina. The deceased were identified as Damian, 11, and Jonathan Medina, 13 AKA Nathan.

Authorities said the car struck a pole at high speed and split in half. Officials described the halves of the car being "a significant distance" apart.

Officials believe the man driving was cut off by another vehicle. The man who hit the light pole reportedly swerved and then lost control of his vehicle.

Authorities said they had very little information about the possible second vehicle that fled the scene.
