2 Boys Killed In Crash On 60 Freeway In Glen Avon
GLEN AVON (AP) — The California Highway Patrol says two children were killed when they were thrown from a sports utility vehicle as it overturned on State Highway 60 in Glen Avon.
CHP Officer Maurice Walker told the Riverside Press-Enterprise that six others in the SUV were also injured in the crash near Pyrite Street at 9:45 a.m. Sunday.
The Riverside County Coroner identified the children as 6-year-old Fernando Benitez of Los Angeles and 14-year-old Genesis Fuentes of Los Angeles.
A preliminary investigation shows the SUV rolled after an apparent tire blowout.
Walker said only three people were properly restrained in the van.
The families were headed to Lake Perris where they planned to celebrate the 4th of July.
Glen Avon is in Riverside County about 50 miles east of Los Angeles.
