2 Big Rigs Collide On The 60 Freeway
CITY OF INDUSTRY (CBS) — Officials said two big rigs collided on the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway in the City of Industry Monday evening, closing the freeway in both directions.
Authorities at the scene said neither driver appeared to be injured even though the vehicles were on their sides. One rig was also in flames.
The accident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. at Azusa Avenue, said California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada.
One truck was carrying dog food and the other tires, which were being offloaded, Capt. Sam Padilla of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
About 50 firefighters were called to the scene and Caltrans was sending a crew to inspect the fire damage to the overpass under which the collisionoccurred, Padilla said.
Another county fire department captain told KCAL9 that he expected the debris would mostly be cleaned up by the morning commute.
A huge traffic backup was growing as firefighters were working on clearing the freeway.
