Suspect Identified In Double Homicide At Glendora Car Wash
GLENDORA (CBSLA.com) — Two men have been arrested Friday in connection with the fatal stabbing of two homeless men whose bodies were found at a car wash in the San Gabriel Valley.
A witness flagged down a Glendora Police lieutenant and said he heard screaming in the area just before 2 a.m. Thursday in the 200 block of West Route 66, near Vermont Avenue, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.
The unidentified victims, who investigators believe were camping at the car wash when they were attacked, had suffered several stab wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Both men were longtime Glendora residents who had family and friends in the community, police said. They reportedly suffered from addiction and mental health issues and had been offered access to resources to assist them with their challenges, according to authorities.
"While the victims were living on the street, I want to be clear that their lifestyle is not the cause of this tragic situation" Glendora Police Chief Rob Castro said in a statement. "Being homeless is not a crime, the murder of two innocent people is, and we hold everyone involved accountable for their actions."
After a subsequent investigation, police arrested two men and recovered a possible murder weapon. One suspect was identified as 28-year-old Drew Friss, of Glendora, according to the Glendora Sheriff's Department.
"We're confident that the two people who are in custody are the ones who committed this heinous crime," Chief Castro said. "This was an isolated crime and a very unusual occurrence in Glendora as evidenced by the fact that we have not had a murder in our community since 2009. I firmly believe the community can be assured the suspects in this case are not roaming free."
The names of the suspects were not released.
A motive for the stabbing was unclear.
