2 Arrested In Armed Robbery Of Kohl's In Riverside
RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Police have arrested two people in connection with an armed robbery at a Kohl's department store in Riverside.
The store, located at 3530 Tyler St., was robbed around 6 a.m. Monday, the Riverside Police Department said.
"A male suspect armed with a handgun confronted store employees entering the business. The suspect forced the employees into the office at gunpoint and demanded cash," Sgt. David Amador said.
The suspect, who was later identified as Eugene Davis Washington, fled the scene in a white Dodge Avenger with an undisclosed amount of money, according to police.
The vehicle was later located by officers on the eastbound 10 Freeway and a brief pursuit ensued on the streets of Redlands, police said.
It ended on Barton Road, just west of Alabama, when Washington bailed out of the vehicle on foot with a duffel bag. He later tossed the bag in a dumpster and surrendered.
The driver of the vehicle, 26-year-old Tumoi King, was also arrested by officers.
"An undisclosed amount of cash was located in the duffel bag along with a loaded handgun," Sgt. Amador said.
Washington, a Palmdale resident, is facing charges of armed robbery, kidnap for robbery and several others related to parole violations.
King, of Mohave, was arrested for armed robbery, kidnap of robbery and failure to yield.
Both suspects have been booked at the Riverside County Jail and are awaiting arraignment.
"These suspects are believed to have been involved in numerous similar armed robberies and attempted robberies throughout Riverside and San Bernardino counties over the past several months," Sgt. Amador added.
