2 Arrested After Wild Police Pursuit Through West Covina, Whittier
WHITTIER (CBS) — Two bank robbery suspects were in custody Monday following a wild police pursuit through West Covina and Whittier.
A man and a woman were arrested by West Covina police after the chase ended just after 11 a.m. after the suspects allegedly robbed the First Federal Credit Union and then took off in a white van.
Police then broadcast a description of the white van, and officers began a pursuit on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway.
The pursuit went onto surface streets in Whittier, where the driver slowed down to allow a female to jump on board, and after clinging to the side of the vehicle, she finally climbed into the van through a window.
West Covina Police spokesman Rudy Lopez told KNX 1070's Claudia Peschiutta he has never seen anything like it in over 30 years of law enforcement.

"He got involved in one confirmed traffic accident and several near-misses, including some pedestrians that almost got hit," said Lopez.
The van eventually stopped near Whittier Boulevard and Penn Street, where police used K-9 officers to subdue the male suspect who was uncooperative.
The male suspect was then transported to the hospital to be treated for dog bites. His relationship to the female passenger was unknown.
