The lockdown of Loara High, 1765 W. Cerritos Ave., and nearby Madison Elementary was lifted around 12:30 p.m. after Anaheim police determined the student was not at either school.
Officials were looking for a 14-year-old boy who allegedly had a gun in his waistband.
"It appears that the boy with the supposed gun had departed the school prior to police arrival," said Sgt. Rick Martinez.
Police believe the suspect is a gang member.
Police said classes resumed as normal after the lockdown was lifted. Authorities are still looking for the teen.
